On June 11, 2022, the Kababayan Kids hosted a Filipino story telling time and halo-halo making event at the John F. Kennedy Library in Vallejo, California. The event, was open to the public and was hosted in the library’s community room.

The Kababayan Kids, a group of young Filipino-Americans from the Vallejo area, and share traditional Filipino stories and folklore passed down through the generations. The stories, both English and Tagalog, provided a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines.

After the story telling, the Kababayan Kids lead a halo-halo making demonstration, showcasing the steps involved in creating this popular Filipino dessert. Halo-halo, which means “mix-mix” in Tagalog, is a refreshing and flavorful treat made with a mixture of ingredients such as shaved ice, evaporated milk, and various fruits and beans.

Attendees of the event enjoyed the opportunity to sample the halo-halo and learn more about Filipino culture from the Kababayan Kids.
